How do I find the pollen filter on a Citroen Berlingo 1.4?

Could anyone help with the location and replacement of the pollen filter as I wish to replace it myself. The car is fitted with Air conditioning.

The pollen filter is situated on the passengerside under the the dash.

You need to unscew a cover first.
Reply:in the passenger fotwell but behind a plastic cover
Reply:I do not have a berlingo, but i have changed pollen filters on a couple of cars. They are normally situated near the bulk head on the passenger side of the car.Inside the engine bay.Hope this helps a little. You may have to take off plastic bits to get at it.It looks a bit like a small air filter.

What do Butterflies do with the pollen?

What is the pollen exactly too btw??

What do Butterflies do with the pollen?
Butterflies feed primarily on nectar from flowers. Some also derive nourishment from pollen, tree sap, rotting fruit, dung, and dissolved minerals in wet sand or dirt. Butterflies play an important ecological role as pollinators.

As adults, butterflies consume only liquids and these are sucked by means of their proboscis. They feed on nectar from flowers and also sip water from damp patches. This they do for water, for energy from sugars in nectar and for sodium and other minerals which are vital for their reproduction. Several species of butterflies need more sodium than provided by nectar. They are attracted to sodium in salt and they sometimes land on people, attracted by human sweat. Besides damp patches, some butterflies also visit dung, rotting fruit or carcasses to obtain minerals and nutrients. In many species, this Mud-puddling behaviour is restricted to the males and studies have suggested that the nutrients collected are provided as a nuptial gift along with the spermatophore during mating.
Reply:It's like a drug to them so they snort it.
Reply:butterflies drink the nectar from the flower the pollen is carried on them as they go from flower to flower this somehow helps the flower look up pollination
Reply:they eat the nectar from the flowers, thats what they live on. was reading about them as we have a lot in the garden. if you want to encourage them put out sugar and water in a dish for them.but they hibernate in winter.
Reply:They only get covered in it. They drink the nectar of the flower. Nectar is super-saturated natural sugar.
Reply:Butterflies simply transfer pollen from one flower to another as they drink nectar. A butterfly's only objective is to eat and mate. It is the plant that has evolved in such a way as to insure that pollination takes place by keeping it's nectar deep inside the flower which causes the butterfly, bee, wasp, and humming birds to get dusted with the pollen each time they feed. Then when the insects move to the next flower that flower gets pollinated. Flowers need to be pollinated in order to go to seed and produce offspring.

From Wikipedia:

Pollen is a fine to coarse powder consisting of microgametophytes (pollen grains), which produce the male gametes (sperm cells) of seed plants. The pollen grain with its hard coat protects the sperm cells during the process of their movement between the stamens of the flower to the pistil of the next flower.
Reply:They sell it to the bees or swap it for nectar.

Some tips/websites for pollen identification?

I am doing a project where I have to collect and identify pollen. The problem is I have no idea what flowers might have little white or yellow pollen. Is there anyone out there who knows identification techniques, or knows a website that explains how to identify?

Thanks a lot.

Some tips/websites for pollen identification?
This one is pretty good. http/www.microscopy-uk-org.uk/mag/index I hope I have this right. If nothing else works do a search under pollen identification and this website will pop up in about four or fifth place. The website is good and there are excellent links within the website. I chose this particular website because it focuses on photos and color enhancements.

What do you think to face masks helping with serious pollen allergies?

Hi, i cycle and love to be outdoors, however, since moving to the USA I've developed serious pollen allergies. I'm thinking of buying an allergy mask from 3M to wear while playing outdoor.

Does anyone have any experience with these? are they any good? are they re-usable? which is the best?

thanks

What do you think to face masks helping with serious pollen allergies?
I have severe pollen allergies and receive allergy shots weekly, which has been the biggest help in making my allergies more manageable. (It is not a drug, but they inject you with the substances you are allergic to and your body naturally builds up resistance to those substances).

The second piece to that is to avoid your allergy triggers, so if you have a tree pollen allergy, then you would avoid heavy activity during peak season. I am supposed to wear a mask when I garden, dust, vacuum, or brush my dog--and it does help quite a bit. For small or dirty tasks, I use the disposable 3M masks--and I am purchasing a HEPA mask for other projects. But I do not jog in a mask--during my trigger seasons, I run on my treadmill.

I have dealt with severe allergies for years and the allergy shots have been the best relief. I highly recommend for you to make an appointment with an allergist or Nose, Ear, and Throat Specialist. I hope this information offers you a few options...have a great week! Peace...
Reply:In order to keep pollen out you have to wear some heavy duty masks, the type painters use. They have thick filters on either side of the mouth and as far as bicycling, impossible to wear and breathe through.

Your best bet would be some non-drowsy antihistamine, like Claritin.

My kids were out playing barefoot in the yard this morning and the bottoms of their feet looked like they were painted greenish-yellow-brown when they came back inside. They were only outside for an hour, so yeah it's pretty bad. Thankfully it washes off in the shower, so you can continue to go out barefoot and enjoy the beautiful weather if that is your thing.

what is the function of seeds?

serious biology answers here please.

BTW- please don't give me any crap about "read your text book" thats what i've been doing all night people! and i still can't find the answer so please help.

What is the function of pollen and seeds?
Pollen, or flower sperm, is a fine to coarse powder consisting of microgametophytes (pollen grains), which carry the male gametes of seed plants. Each pollen grain contains one or two generative cells (the male gametes) and a vegetative cell. The group of three cells is surrounded by a cellulose cell wall and a thick, tough outer wall made of sporopollenin.

The transfer of pollen grains to the female reproductive structure (pistil in angiosperms) is called pollination. This transfer can be mediated by the wind, in which case the plant is described as anemophilous (literally wind-loving). Anemophilous plants typically produce great quantities of very lightweight pollen grains, often with air-sacs, and generally have inconspicuous flowers. Entomophilous (literally insect-loving) plants produce pollen that is relatively heavy, sticky and protein-rich, for dispersal by insect pollinators attracted to their flowers.

When placed on the stigma, under favorable circumstances, the pollen-grain puts forth a pollen-tube which grows down the tissue of the style to the ovary, and makes its way along the placenta, guided by projections or hairs, to the mouth of an ovule. The nucleus of the tube-cell has meanwhile passed into the tube, as does also the generative nucleus which divides to form two male- or sperm-cells. The male-cells are carried to their destination in the tip of the pollen-tube.

A seed is the ripened ovule of gymnosperm or angiosperm plants. The importance of the seed relative to more primitive forms of reproduction and dispersal is attested to by the success of these two groups of plants in dominating the landscape.

What is the difference between anther and pollen?

on a diagram i have there is an arrown pointing to the top of the filament adn it says anther and also pollen. is it that the anther has the pollen inside it?

What is the difference between anther and pollen?
The stamen is the male organ of a flower. Each stamen generally has a stalk called the filament, and, on top of the filament, an anther.

ANTHER

The anther is usually composed of four pollen sacs, which are called microsporangia. The development of the microsporangia and the contained haploid spores (called pollen-grains) is closely comparable with that of the microsporangia in gymnosperms or heterosporous ferns. The pollen is set free by the opening (dehiscence) of the anther, generally by means of longitudinal slits, but sometimes by pores, as in the heath family (Ericaceae), or by valves, as in the barberry family (Berberidaceae). It is then dropped, or carried by some external agent — wind, water or some member of the animal kingdom — onto the receptive surface of the carpel of the same or another flower, which is thus pollinated.

POLLEN

Pollen is produced in the microsporangium (contained in the anther of an angiosperm flower, male cone of a coniferous plant, or male cone of other seed plants). Pollen grains come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and surface markings characteristic of the species (see photomicrograph at right). Most, but certainly not all, are spherical. Pollen grains of pines, firs, and spruces are winged. The smallest pollen grain, that of the Forget-me-not plant (Myosotis sp.), is around 6 µm (0.006 mm) in diameter. The study of pollen is called palynology and is highly useful in paleontology, archeology, and forensics.
Reply:The anther is the structure which holds all the pollen grains till they get matured.diaghram will point both towards it but actually pollengrains are inside.
Reply:The anther is the part that makes the pollen.
Reply:The pollen is made by the anther
Reply:The anther is a container at the top of the filament. (the stamen is made up of the filament and the anther). The pollen is formed inside the anther and is released at maturity.

How do you deal with Pollen on cars?

I live in Atlanta, GA, and i'm so sick of the Pollen here! I'm a transplant from Dallas, TX and have never had to deal with this before. I washed my car this morning, and already there is a thin layer of this icky green stuff on my car. How do you guys handle it here? Is there any kind of product that I can put on my car to repel the pollen? Or do I just waste money on car washes every week because I can't stand to have the green stuff on my car. Any hints would be very helpful. Thanks!!

How do you deal with Pollen on cars?
You'll pretty much be stuck spending money on car washes. In another month or so we'll have the same problem here in the northeast. Waxing the car provides only a slight benefit in terms of resistance; the pollen will still stick to your car but may come off a bit easier when driving at speed.

You could get a cover for your car or garage it, but other than that, you are going to have to get the car washed to remove the pollen. Sorry.
Reply:dont be dissing my hometown!!! anyways i stay 10 minutes from downtown atlanta and we have so much pollen becuase there are many tree's and also u cant avoid the pollen. i have been washing mycar everyday, i have wax on my car and overnight it builds back up with pollen so u cant avoid it untill summer starts and tree's have finished pollinating. go back to texas then where you think life is so perfect, maybe your car wont be exsposed to ATLANTA'S POLLEN!!!
Reply:We get the same thing here in NJ. If possible just hose it off whenever you can. No way to avoid it unless you can find a place to park where the pollen isn't as heavy, but good luck.
Reply:where I'm from -pollen was TERRIBLE. I would just spray off the car about once a week til pollen season was over. There's nothing you can do--even keeping it in a garage will just keep some of it off. But if you notice--unless someone JUST washed thier car, everyone's looks just as bad. You have to grin and bear it.
Reply:use a high performance polish like autoglm of some of the turtle wax products are ok. give the care a good polish and just dust it every day with a lint free cloth, happy motoring

How can I get a neighbor to cut down a cottonwood tree, that is ruining my pool with cotton pollen?

I have to work constanly to keep it clean and my pool pump and filter is being damaged from the cotton pollen.

How can I get a neighbor to cut down a cottonwood tree, that is ruining my pool with cotton pollen?
Well, luckily cottonwood trees let go of their fluffballs for only about a week or two every year. Keep your pool covered, and vacuum off the cover before you take it off, so the seeds/cotton doesn't get into the water.

Unfortunately, you can't blame anybody for mother nature planting trees. Even if the cottonwood tree was a couple houses over, you would still get that stuff floating into your yard.

We have a golf course behind our house, and the cottonwood trees send out the cotton every year. Our grass actually gets white for about a week! We can't do anything about it, since nobody can control what the trees do.
Reply:I'd suggest you ask him nicely if he would be willing to get the tree cut down. You may even offer to help pay for it.

If it's a good source of shade for his home he might not be too willing to get rid of it.

If the tree was there first it's not his fault that you put your pool where you did without considering the consequences of neighboring trees.

As far as I know, cottonwood "snow" season is realatively short. Cover your pool and wait til it's over.
Reply:you cant because this is an act of mother nature.

you can ask for them to trim it back some.

have you talked with them ??
Reply:Is the tree branching into ur yard or is the stuff blowing off into ur pool? I was wondering cause if the tree has branches that are on ur property than it should be fine to cut those off,i would talk to the neighbour first of course just outta respect. On the other hand, maybe buying a pool cover would be wise,i do think pools are recommended to be kept covered anyways for all kinds of reasons, this may not rectify the prob completely but it would certainly cut down on it. :)

Thanks for your answers!

Which times of the year is there the most pollen in the air?
Both Yahoo and Weatherbug will give a detailed pollen count for your area and will also list specific things that are flowering at the moment. Spring is heavy duty pollen time. In Spring you have pollen from all the spring flowers such as dandelions; grass; bulbs, and early blooming trees. I am particularly senstive to tree pollen, especially pines. Naturally I am surrounded by pines. My eyes water incessantly. I have to pop Benadryl during pine pollen season and use great eye drops for allergy eyes. Fall is really bad for pollen. This is when ragweed, goldenrod, grasses, are all shooting their little nasties into the air. Ever seen a picture of a ragweed pollen? It looks just like a cannonball with spikes. This pollen gets into your nose and sticks to the membranes. Allergies...yuk. I am afraid that is one thing winter is good for although I am ready to sneeze and be done with snow.

Take LOCAL HONEY-this has bee pollen in it. Most local fruit stands and little country stores carry it. Go to the town hall in your town and ask for bee keepers-they will direct you to people who gather honey.

Whats the best way to clean up tree pollen/seeds?

What can you tell me about pollen in the air?

http://www.cabq.gov/airquality/pollen.ht... has some good information...if I lived in Canada. Thinking more mid-Atlantic states here, but any information is good. Is that what gives outdoor air such a clean, fresh scent? Tree pollens--and why would a tree release pollen?

What can you tell me about pollen in the air?
Outdoor air has a clean, fresh scent if the outdoor air is clean and fresh ... ie, unpolluted. Pollen would have litle to do with clean air. In fact a lot of people are allergic to wind-borne pollen. A tree releases pollen to fertilize flowers of the same species to produce seeds for the next generation. This is not all trees ... trees with flowers usually have insects or birds that transfer their pollen and, therefore, do NOT want their pollen just blowing around randomly. Wind-pollinated trees, however, do just that and have specially receptive types of stigmas to catch the pollen. Because the pollination is random, large amounts of pollen are usually produced to ensure that some grains reach their target. Examples of wind-pollinated trees: Chestnut, Pecan, Pistachio, Walnut, Cottonwood, Boxelder, Maples, Oaks, Liquidambar and some willows. Conifers are almost exclusively pollinated by wind ... I have seen pollen produced in huge quantities by a pine tree.

How do i clean the pollen out of my above ground pool?
You may actually have something called mustard algae. We had it last year and thought it was pollen. You will have to add a healthy dose of agaecide. I left the filter off for a full day otherwise the algae just circulates. The algae will die and sink to the bottom. Vaccum on waste and add a pool clarifier. We used something called sparkle. Not cheap but this worked for me.
Reply:Balance the PH, shock with dichlor, and run the filter until it is gone. Also, I don't sell this stuff but, I have used it for several years, Catalyst by Jack's Majic is a very good sanitizer that helps prevent algae, bacteria, and virus naturally. It also allows you to reduce the amount of chlorine from 3-5 ppm down to .5 ppm.

Does anyone know something that's good for dogs that are allergic to grass pollen?
sounds more like a possible food allergy.I would think grass would cause your dog to itch in more places than just the paws.Paw chewing and licking is a common sign of food allergy's.
Reply:I suggest you keep the benadryl in stock also.My dog also has the allergies and it is hard to control. It seems that the oatmeal bath shampoo helps give them relief as well as the benadryl. If it gets raw and open sores you will need to go to the vet and get her a shot just like us humans. My boxer gets it on paws and jowl.I have tried it all and the best thing is the benadryl.
Reply:My dog seems to do the same thing and generally after eatting something that is not common for their diet. I notice though it only happens a few times a day. Generally a dog bites too, just to feel themselves. If perhaps though the dog does it way too much I would go to the vet and ask what can be done to curb the situation as well as asking to have a test to determine if it allergies, mites or mold spores in your home, many a times it is just dry skin from atmospheric changes. If your dog developes any rashes other than the one mentioned on the paws, then you know it is a severe case and should not be ignored and taken care of immediately. Most times, the problem can subside on its own but is quite rare.

Reply:go to your vet they will give you meds. if you can't get in right away use medical tape and tape a sock over it.
Reply:Get yourself a good EFA supplement. Omega 3 oils help alleviate itching and scratching. A cold pressed salmon oil is very good. It helped my cocker.

SOMETIMES A SPECIAL ALLERGY SERUM, THAT IS DESIGNED JUST FOR YOU PET, IS NEEDED TO ALLEVIATE HER ITCHINESS. MAYBE IT'S THE FOOD, MAYBE GRASS, MAYBE DUST MITES OR MOLDS....YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR SURE TO HELP HER BE MORE COMFORTABLE.

How do I combat allergies due to tree pollen?

What is the best way to fight allergies due to tree pollen?....Both medically and naturally.

How do I combat allergies due to tree pollen?
Wear a hat so you can deter pollen from your eyes and hair (its worked for many). Also sunglasses help when you are outside to block irritants from your eyes. Tree pollen seems to make people the most fatigued, but not so much sneezing. if your throat is irritated try drinking lots of liquids when you come in from outside.

Also if you have trees in your yard trim them if they are overgrowing. The less spring sap and leaf budding around your windows the better. If you can afford one get an ionic breeze at least for your bedroom so you can wake up with less symptoms (always good to start your day healthy).

Claritin seems to work for a lot of people all meds seem to make me more tired. Good luck.
Reply:keep your windows and doors closed and stay inside. Also buy a good filter for your furnace. I have heard that the tree pollen counts are "off the charts" high this year.
Reply:the best thing is to sleep with a humidifier on-it helps you breath in fresh air, and unblock clogged nasal airways-also mucinex
Reply:Stay inside when the pollen count is high. Use a face mask whenever you have to work outside.Try adding a little onion to your food. It helps to combat allergens that trigger an attack.
Reply:Eat local Honey

Where in the Brooklyn area can I get good bee pollen to purchase?

I just read about the amazing powers of bee pollen. Is there any website with specific information on how to use bee pollen for health %26amp; beauty, longevity and infertility problems?

Here are some. Or just look under 'health foods' in your yellow pages.

How can I use honey to ward off pollen allergies?

I haven't tried to use honey to make myself immune to pollen because I haven't been able to find any local honey, and I don't know how to do it.

First I was told just to eat as much honey as I could and over time my body would get used to the pollen.

Then other people told me about eating honey on a regimine for a year, and even longer.

It's confusing =/

Does anyone know for sure how I can use honey to get rid of my spring time allergies?

How can I use honey to ward off pollen allergies?
You really can't use local honey as immunotherapy. The reason some people think it will work is they believe that the honey contains the pollens from your area. This is true. What they don't understand that for the most part, bees do NOT visit the plants that cause the most allergies. The allergy inducing pollens come from plants that use the wind to spread their love. These pollens are white and extremely small and white. The plants that bees visit have a heavy yellow waxy pollen, this is why the bee is there in the first place! Any of the pollen from grasses and trees that might be in the honey is just because the bee took a rest. It doesn't hurt to try, honey tastes good on toast and is yummy in a cup of tea, but don't get your hopes up for a cure. Allergies are chronic and can be controlled but not cured. The things that will work to control seasonal allergy is to stay inside, keep doors and windows closed, run a HEPA air cleaner. If you must go outside when pollen counts are high, as soon as you come in take a shower, wash your hair, and change your clothes. Keep pets inside too...because they bring pollen in on their fur.
Reply:You need local bee pollen from a health store. Take some Co-Q-10, Ginco Baloba and MC Gluco Manen found on line. Also take some Nordic Naturals Fish oil. Drink processed water not filtered. To flush out the toxens.

What time of day do trees release most of their pollen?

Is one time of day worse than another for the release of tree pollen? My allergies seem worse at certain times of day.

What time of day do trees release most of their pollen?
Trees do NOT "release" their pollen!!!

Pollen is MOVED from the tree by wind! (Otherwise it just falls to the ground!)

I will bet that you have more problems when it is WINDY!!!

Good Luck!!
Reply:I think that most of the pollen is released in the morning as things start to warm up. Also if it is windy the pollen blows all over.

How to get Lily pollen out of cotton?

I was throwing out some Lilies and the orange colored pollen gotten all over my favorite sweat shirt. Is there a way to get them out?

How to get Lily pollen out of cotton?
Wash in one cup of White Vinegar in the hottest water your sweatshirt can handle then dry on low or delicate to medium heat setting in the dryer and full cycle wash Good Luck !

Reply:try oxy clean! that gets out everything!

Reply:Lily pollen should come out easily in the wash. You can spot treat the place first with "Shout", but it shouldn't really be necessary.

I would check the stained place before putting the wet sweatshirt in the dryer, though; if the stain sets in the dryer it will be more difficult to remove.

How to get lily pollen out of cream carpet?

Help! Whilst removing the pollen bits from the flower I dropped one on the un-scotch guarded cream carpet! I used sellotape to get the dusty bits off and then used Vanish Oxi action carpet spray but it's just gone an even brighter shade of yellow. Any ideas? White wine vinegar? baking soda? Rug?! thank you!

How to get lily pollen out of cream carpet?
Mix some biological washing powder with nearly hot water and lightly sponge the area. Then soak up with a dry cloth. That should get it out.
Reply:I'm glad you explained how you got the lily pollen onto the cream carpet - I was gonna ask that.

Cream carpet, though... asking for trouble.

Sorry, I wish I could help but I know myself too well to even own a carpet, let alone a cream one.
Reply:All I Can Say Is Uh Oh =O
Reply:you can use a steam cleaner. They lift most stains out of carpets

How can I get out a stain from tiger lily pollen?

My husband bought me some gorgeous tiger lilies, unfortunately he set them on the seat of my car and the pollen stained the seat orange. What can I use to get this out and not ruin my cloth seats?

How can I get out a stain from tiger lily pollen?
Good luck....that stuff is horrible. It is actually used as a natural dye so lots of luck. As with any stain, try your regular stain removers (spray %26amp; wash, tide 2 go, etc.) Make sure each time you try something that you let it dry between any new attampts to get it clean. Also try Resolve carpet cleaner. I have found that works on almost anything. Buy the type for pet stain remover. The pharmacist at my local store (go figure) told me that if a cleaner will get out pet stains, it will pretty much get out ANY stain. And so far she has been right. Lots of luck.
Reply:This is actually pretty amazing, but allowing sunlight to reach the stain will remove it completely. I am a floral designer, so we are forever getting lily pollen on our clothes. This works perfectly, provided you can get direct sunlight into the area that has been stained. The other option is to use a NYLON heavy-bristled brush (hairbrush or small dustpan broom) and briskly brush at the pollen. Whatever is left after that should come out with the sunlight trick.
Reply:wash them with gain laundry detergent it works like a charm and out some dawn dish soap on the spot it gets rid of any stain.

Is there a trick to stop lilies from shedding messy pollen?

I know I had heard of something in the past, but does anybody know any tricks on how to keep lily pollen from falling everywhere and making a mess? Besides cutting off the stamens, of course. Thanks!!

Is there a trick to stop lilies from shedding messy pollen?
Are the lilies outside? If they are let them be, the bees need them to pollinate , if you have a vase or pot inside just remove the stamens.

Explain wHy would grasses release more pollen than insect/bird pollinated flowering plants?

The first answer that come to the mind is that the grasses are wind-pollinated, with the ability to spread pollen to other grasses. But why would grasses release so much more pollen THAN the insects/birds does?

Explain wHy would grasses release more pollen than insect/bird pollinated flowering plants?
YOU ARE PARTIALLY CORRECT AND THERE ARE SO MANY MORE GRASSES AND MORE OF EACH SPECIES THAT THE GRASS POLLEN FAR OUT NUMBERS THE OTHER SPECIES.
Reply:Your first answer is correct.

The problem with wind pollination though is that there is no degree of certainty attached to the direction of the wind. The more pollen produced, therefore, the greater the odds of it finding a receptive plant to alight on. Also, the amount of separate plants in a field necessitates a large quantity of pollen released to ensure the maximum chance of genetic inheritance.

Does taking bee pollen really work for getting rid of allergies?

I've read this online, but I would like to know if anyone has taken it and if it worked. I'm aware that the bee pollen would have to be local.

So, does it work???

Does taking bee pollen really work for getting rid of allergies?
It works if it works, is the straight answer. Some people find it works for them, some people don't. I keep bees, and get a lot of people coming to me for local honey for their hayfever, and most of them reckon it works.

The theory is that bee pollen helps against hay-fever because, by eating the pollen that might be causing the allergy, your body gets used to the pollen, and your immune system (the allergy is an over-reaction of the immune system) starts behaving itself again. If this theory is right, then local pollen, or honey, which has traces of pollen in it, should do the trick.

The problem with that is that hay-fever pollen is spread by wind, not by bees. Hay-fever pollen is typically grass pollen, whereas bee pollen comes from flowers. If they're different types of pollen, from different sorts of plants, how can eating it help? Especially as the process of eating it breaks it down very quickly, like any other sort of food. After all, if eating stuff makes you immune to it, how come people get food poisoning?

The answer to that is we don't know. That's not surprising - the immune system is hideously complicated, and varies from person to person, and within each person it changes over time. We don't even know what it is in the pollen that causes the allergy - ordinary allergy remedies change the symptoms, not the cause - so we've no way to tell whether the theory is right.

It may be that there's something in pollen, of whatever sort, that affects the immune system in a way we don't know. At least, some people's immune systems. Not only that, but we're also familiar with the placebo effect - just by doing something that you think might help is, in itself, helpful, even if there's no obvious reason why it should be.

In short, not everything works for everybody, but if it works for you then yes, it really works.
Reply:I would love to know the answer to this question also. A lady from my church said it worked for her but I haven't taken the time to buy some local bee pollen to try it. I'm very skeptical so I'd love to hear more people who have tried this.

Edit - I decided to look for blogs to see if anyone has commented on this. I couldn't find much other than these two.
Reply:I've heard that using locally made honey will work to help with allergies. I guess it's the same priciple.

I open my pool up early May. Everything worked out perfect. My pool was very clear till the pollen got worse over the month. You can see the pollen floating on top. My pool becoame very cloudy afterwards. Im trying everything I can do to clear it with shock, algecide, clearifers and im even backwashing daily but it doesnt seem to be working , I need help...Thanks!

How to remove pollen out of a swimming pool?
get a skimmer to skim off the pollen on the surface, keep the pool covered over night to prevent excess pollen getting in or when ever ur not using it. if the pool is coudy, at may be that the alkanity level is too high. try lowering it and make sure that ur ph level is between 7.2 and 7.6

maybe there are TOO many chemicals in it. try leaving it be for a few days while having the filter running. then shock it and add chlorine.

How do you remove pollen stains on cotton that are from the white lily flower?

the stamin in the lily is reddish, and the pollen, once on the fabric is yellowish.. I have tried dish soap, laundry soap, Shout stain remover.. To add to my latest collection are 2 pink cotton tops... thanks.

How do you remove pollen stains on cotton that are from the white lily flower?
I know your problem-such pretty flowers, but awful pollen. Have you tried hydrogen peroxide-the mouthwash type? What about applying lemon juice and putting out in the sun?

When I have had the stain on my white sink I sprayed it with Clorox CleanUp but that may be too harsh for the fabric.

As a last resort, you might try phoning a florist to ask how they have handled the problem. There may be a website for something like The Fabric Institute to help. As popular as this type of lily is, I doubt if you are the first with this problem.
Reply:After I answered I went to a floral demonstration and asked your question. His best suggestion was to were latex gloves when working with the flowers but no ideas for solutions to your problem other than what I suggested. Report It

Reply:My solution only works on white cotton, sorry.

*I* pour a drop or two of cheap bleach in the cap, then take a Q-tip and dip it in there, then dab that on the spot. Allow that to sit for a bit ( a minute or less) and launder. *I* use Gain liquid. It works everytime for me!
Reply:Hi there. I use hydrogen peroxide. It bubbles on the stain. I rinse and repeat as needed. Then I make a paste out of powder detergent and apply it to the stain. I then add the regular amount of detergent in the washing machine and launder as usual. This is also good for blood. Have a great day.
Reply:Try a white bar of soap rub it on the inside and the outside of the material hope it works!

How are anthers and pollen grains adapted for distributing pollen?

Whoa big question. Also, how is the stigma adapted for capturing pollen?

How are anthers and pollen grains adapted for distributing pollen?
Wow that is a big question. There are a lot of adaptations, and they are different depending on how the plant is pollinated. For example in wind pollinate species, the anthers hang out of the flower so they can get dispersed by the wind, the pollen is usually smooth or has air sacs and the stigma is feathery to increase the surface area and also hangs out of the flower.

In animal pollinated species, the anthers are usually prominently displayed so the pollinator can find them, the pollen is spiky so it can attach to the pollinator and the stigma is located somewhere the pollinators can get to it and is sticky. These are just generalizations and there are many variations on this theme.

Can pollen allergies be passed on to others?

Well, I don't know if I still am but every Spring I got my allergies. Mid-way through Spring, I stopped taking my medicine and I was just fine. But that same day, my sister, who was not allergic to anything, suddenly got an allergic reaction to pollen. I asked my mom and my health teacher if they knew if that was possible but they said they never heard of anything like that happening and think it was just an interesting coincidence. I think that may be true but I would like someone else's opinion about this. Thanks to whoever answers this.

Can pollen allergies be passed on to others?
Allergies are not communicable in the sense that bacteria are. You cannot catch someone's allergy the way you can catch their cold. However, allergies can be inherited, so perhaps your sister became allergic simply because you have the same parents.

Or maybe she just wanted to hog all the attention :o)
Reply:No, allergies are not infectious. It is likely that your sister has allergies too. It may be that it was previously not detected.

Why do my pollen allergies start at different times?

Last year my spring allergies started pretty much the first day of the season (Northern NJ, bad place for tree pollen). This year, they barely started in mid April at the beginning of the season and stayed pretty low key until today, May 10th, and all of a sudden they are disastrous. How come my allergies didn't fully blossom until today even though the pollen counts have been higher this year?

Why do my pollen allergies start at different times?
It all depends upon which tree you are specifically allergic to...it may be late blooming this year. Different weather patterns will bring out one specific plant one day and another a different day. Some news/weather channels will show when pollen will be especially bad that day, but not being from where you are I wouldn't know the channels.
Reply:SOME TIMES MOTHER NATURE CAN BE JUST A LITTLE LATE OR A LITTLE EARLY AND THE WEATHER ALL DEPENDS ON THE BUDDING PROCESS IF COLD SLOWER IF WARM FASTER
Reply:it depends wich pollen you allergic to ,tree pollen is the first ,then grass pollens

How is pollen count measured and how does temperature affect the rate of it in the Spring?

I noticed yesterday evening , I sneezed more than I have in a long time due to , I am guessing pollen, but the thing is I dont see any blooms out yet from anything!

So was wondering if this is pollen or not and btw, the temperature did rise to very warm readings yesterday, so how much would that affect the pollen being given off?

Thanks for your answers!

Pollen...?

how are pollen grains adapted for dispersal by wind?

Pollen...?
Pollen grains are small and lightweight, so they drift easily on the wind. Some, like pine pollen, actually have little wings.

Another adaptation for wind dispersal is that wind-pollinated plants make lots and lots of pollen. Way more than insect-pollinated plants make.
