What is a good remedy for allergies during the pollen season?

I found Pyroton (sorry about spelling) very effective. I have asthma as well as being allergic to pollen, grass and dust .

What is a good remedy for allergies during the pollen season?
Besides staying in doors like a recluse, I take Dristan for some reason it helps me, keeps me uncongested, and doesn't let my nose run yet frees up my breathing.
Reply:if your going to use a nasal spray, its better that you use a saline spray, regular nasal sprays you can become addicted to and it can leave you with a rebound affect.and youll be worse off for it.
Reply:Get a neti pot! A neti pot is a pot that helps you rinse your nasal passages. I have horrid allergies, and in combination with my medications (accolate, and OTC zyrtec) my allergy symptoms have really diminished. Rinse twice a day, you'll feel so much better!

What is the best way to clear a fish pond of cloudiness caused by pollen?

What is the best way to clear a fish pond of cloudiness caused by pollen?
Try the pond section of this website:

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/
Reply:Cover the pond when the pollen is blowing. Skim the top of the water with a net-just like you'd clean a pool.
Reply:get a better filter for it i have one and that really worked
Reply:I put baking soda in my pool for cloudiness...but I would ask a knowledgeable person at a pet store before doing that...never used it in a fish pond before...works great in the pool though.
Reply:use a net
Reply:If you go to a big nursery or hardware store/nursery that sells pond supplies, you can find a bottle of water clarifier. I have a small pond with turtles in it, and I add clarifier once a month. Within a few days the water is clear again. (I also have a filter that traps particles and clean that with a hose every month). Pollen is very light and will float on the water for a while. You could try skimming it off the surface with a very fine mesh net.

Difference between a dust and pollen filter and air cleaner element?

IN my honda civic sedan 2004, factory recommendations shows replace dust nad pollen filter every 2 years AND replce air cleaner element every 15K..

so are they the same or different? is dust and pollen fitler same as air fitler???

Difference between a dust and pollen filter and air cleaner element?
air cleaner element is under the hood, and for filtering engine air, the HEPA or pollen and dust filter is under the dash in front of the passenger seat and filters passenger air.

What is the pollen like where you live?

Our pollen count today in Georgia was 5499,and the temp was 82 degrees.

Everyone is suffering here, hope all is well where you are.

What is the pollen like where you live?
I'm not sure what the pollen count is, but every time I get into the car I have to use my car's windshield washer fluid to get the pollen off. My silver car has a greenish hue too. Thankfully I haven't had any sinus trouble, although my skin has been pretty itchy!

The dandelions are fixing to seed, and we must cut them down or the hay fever will begin, and it already has. No pollen thick enough to notice, but somethings in the air that loves to make your nose itch, eyes water, and toss a hairball.

How come when bees drop pollen grains they transferred directly onto the stigma of flowers?

is it just luck?

How come when bees drop pollen grains they transferred directly onto the stigma of flowers?
Every pollen grain does not end up on the stigma of a flower. And for that matter, some pollen grains end up on the stigma of a flower of the wrong species. The bees take a lot of pollen back home with them for food. But there is a LOT of pollen.

The flowers and the bees have coevolved so that their pollen-carrying and pollen accepting structures are positioned in a way that makes it more likely that successful pollination will happen. And the stigma is sticky with fluid so it traps any pollen that brushes against it.
Reply:Bees have a bunch of sticky hairs on their lower legs and feet. When bees visit one flower, pollen from the anther sticks to the hairs. Then the bee flies to another flower. When it lands on the flower, the sturdiest part is the stigma, and that is where the bee often ends up landing.

The sticky hairs are then PERFERCTLY situated to transfer pollen onto the stigma. It's not luck. It's evolution.
Reply:Inside the flower can be a rather tight space; if the pollen is stuck to the bee's legs or body, it can simply brush off as the bee moves around on the flower.

What is a possible explanation to why there are more pollen grains produced by an anther than ovules produced?

by one ovary?

What is a possible explanation to why there are more pollen grains produced by an anther than ovules produced?
Consider this by using humans in comparison. Women produce one ovum per every time meiosis (sex-cell production) occurs in the cells. Men on the other hand produce four sperm cells. The reason only one are produced in women is actually because 4 new eggs are produced, but only one has sufficient cytoplasm to survive. The cytoplasm division was fixed in favour so that one cell would have a lot. Women don't need so many eggs. They stay within the ovaries and wait for sperm to come along, they don't go anywhere. However, sperm cells, with the cytoplasm delivered equally to all of them, as they only need this much cytoplasm, are the ones looking for an egg to fertilize. They venture out into 'foreign places'. It's the same idea with pollen. It's going to go on a mission to pollenate more flowers. More ovules aren't necessary, they aren't going anywhere.

I apologize if my explanation wasn't clear enough, but I hope it helped.
Reply:Plants and their pollinators have co-evolved because plants offer a reward for the repeated visitation of 'their' pollinators. In flowering plants pollen has evolved two roles: carrier of sperm genome and food reward for pollinators. This requires they make pollen to cover both needs.

Both bees and beetles consume large quantities of pollen as their protein source. The plants seeking these pollination partners often signal the presence of pollen by visual and olfactory cues. Yellow food guides and showy stamens advertise pollen as a food source.

http://www.amjbot.org/cgi/content/full/9...

Pollen has its own scent, distinct from the whole flower aroma, in some species. to signal pollinators. Pollen eating insects are attracted by the smell of pollen to the mature flowers.

http://www.jstor.org/pss/2446264

" odour ... was the primary and overriding cue used by bees to select pollen."

http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob...

Bee pollen collection is to make a protein-rich food to feed the larvae.

http://ag.arizona.edu/pubs/insects/ahb/i...
Reply:The possible reason why there are more pollen grains produced than the ovary, is to ensure fertilization. When there are more pollen grains produced, there is a greater chance for pollination.

How far can a worker bee range to collect pollen from flowers?

I was sitting with my cup of tea this morning observing a little worker bee busying itself with hopping around the daisies on the lawn where I am staying.

To my knowledge there are no beehive farms anywhere near this neighbourhood and so I was curious as to how far they actually can range to do their amazing business.

What should i do with my pollen?

I have recently invested in a herb grinder with a built in pollen catcher. Other than pressing the contents, can anyone suggest something good to do with it?

What should i do with my pollen?
i think ,you an use it as a pollen source,i mean , from a beekeeping perspective. The color of pollen indicates the color as it appears when the pollen arrives at the beehive. Bees mix dry pollen with nectar and/or honey to compact the pollen in the pollen basket. Dry pollen, is a food source for bees, which contains 16 - 30% protein, 1 - 10% fat, 1 - 7% starch, many vitamins, but little sugar. The protein source needed for rearing one worker bee from larval to adult stage requires approximately 120 to 145 mg of pollen. An average bee colony will collect about 20 to 57 kg (44 to 125 pounds) of pollen a year.

Can the pollen cause for me to have really bad migraine headaches?

My blood pressure checks good so what is it.

Can the pollen cause for me to have really bad migraine headaches?
Yes, you should probably take a Claritin daily while pollen is high just to make sure. If you get another one, it could be hormones or stress. I can't stay in the sun for too long and I'll get one.

Track your symptoms with what you did and ate that day every time you get one. Within months (or a year, depending on how often you get them) you can find out what triggers them.

Good luck!
Reply:Probably a sinus headache. Benadryl and Advil should do the trick - just don't drive while on these meds.

If a plant has Ttyy, what genetic combinations could be present in a single grain of pollen?

If a plant has Ttyy, what genetic combinations could be present in a single grain of pollen? Does Ttyy represent two different traits? How is a allele combinated four-lettered? Thanks!

If a plant has Ttyy, what genetic combinations could be present in a single grain of pollen?
1. Half of the pollens will have Ty and the other half of the pollens will have ty.

2. Yes, Ttyy represents two different traits. Imagine that in peas T is tall and t is short. Y is yellow and y is green seeds. Then Ttyy is a tall plant with green seeds.

3. It takes 4 letters to tell about two traits because each trait is governed by two alleles (two genes). The plant got a T or t from each parent and the plant got a Y or y from each parent.
Reply:The T's and the Y's are two different traits, so here you are talking about two alleles. If they behave like unjoined traits, the combinations would be Ty and ty.
Reply:Yes Ttyy represents two different traits. Tt is one trait and yy is another. The possible genetic combinations in a single grain could be TTYY, TTYy, TtYY, TtYy, TTyy, Ttyy, ttYY, ttYy, ttyy. The combination be be many letters AaBbCcDdEeFf, each representing a different trait

The only time the pollen will be Ty and ty alone will be within the gametes.

Do you have experience with pollen allergies. What can I do to ease my symptoms?

What air purifiers work best? What over the counter drugs work best? Should I get an inhaler for my cough? Is there an over the counter one? Does vacuuming my room regularly really matter? Any other tips?

Do you have experience with pollen allergies. What can I do to ease my symptoms?
For OTC drugs I suggest Alavert. (It's a different brand of Claritin, but works best for me) For prescription drugs try Hismanal. Air purifiers dont work well, but humidifiers DO. Just get one at Wal-Mart. No, you should not get an inhaler. Buy surgical masks to wear when you go outside. I do it. It might look funny, but I'm a heck of a lot more comfortable! Also, drink lots of fluids. Vacuuming regularly will not help with pollen allergies, but will help with other types of allergies.
Reply:I only have problems with pollen in the Springtime and Fall. I take Allegra and its by prescription only.
Reply:Benedryl.
Reply:I take Tylenol Sinus and within minutes get relief- They have day or night tablets. Keep windows down and stay inside as much as possible. Vacuuming a lot if you don't have a vacuum that does not spread the pollen into the air like a heppa filter or one that goes into the water is best.

Has anyone fed bee pollen as a supplement to pregnant mares, or know of any adverse reactions?

I've been doing some reading and am getting mixed results.

Has anyone fed bee pollen as a supplement to pregnant mares, or know of any adverse reactions?
I haven't, but I guess my question would be, with all the excellent known and proven supplements out there, why would you want to add something that has mixed reviews?

I would honestly just stay safe with things you know work and aren't harmful.

Good luck with your baby tho :)

Reply:I agree with Mule Trainer.. Why take the chance! A high quality feed is the best idea!
Reply:um.. I've never heard of that...

sorry.

Congrats on the foal!
Reply:never heard of that one
Reply:I can tell you one adverse reaction though it is VERY RARE in horses. Some horses can exhibit an allergic reaction, especially to bee pollen that is incidentally or purposefully gathered from wind pollinated flowers (usually bees do not forage on these unless drought or other adverse conditions force them to).

Once in a great while you will get a horse that is allergic to wind pollinated plant pollens such as rag weed. Usually with little effect on the horse other than a slight runny nose. But when you give them bee pollen with extremely high amounts of the allergen it can kill the horse. As I said horses with these allergies are rare but I know of at least one that was diagnosed with the condition.

Is there a "birth control pill" for trees that will keep a tree from producing troublesome pollen and seeds?

I'm thinking of something like an anti-fertilizer that won't kill the tree, just render it unproductive.

Is there a "birth control pill" for trees that will keep a tree from producing troublesome pollen and seeds?
No
Reply:There is nothing like this available for trees.
Reply:If there were such a thing it would totally render the tree useless. A tree goes through a cycle: flowering, leafing, fruiting, dormancy, all for a purpose. Stop its purpose and stop the tree. Maybe you need to look into trees that are low litter, low pollen, etc. or get rid of the trees and put down rock mulch instead.
Reply:yes. just dont plant M and F plants next to eachother. i no it might seem crazy but how do u think smaller an larger plants grow? haha. u can cut out the pollen or sumtin
Reply:wishful thinking.
Reply:Yes. There is a commercial product called "Florel". It has to be sprayed on the tree when it's in bloom. It's a growth regulator that prevents pollination from occurring.

If the tree is large, though - you may have to have a tree service spray to be able to reach all the flowers.

It's frequently use on Sweetgum trees to prevent the pollination and subsequent production of those largish- prickly brown seedpods. Also some fruit tree owners will use it when they don't want to deal with harvesting fruit, or fruit-drop clean up.

Need Help understanding plant Pollen and Spore terminology?

Can the biologist, botanist, or biology major . . . please help explain or outline or list in order the structures containing the term "spore" according to most plant life cycles. for gymnosperms to angiosperms.

i.e.

Theres the spore, the the sporangium, there a sporophyte, . . . etc. . . any tips on remembering these terms and the structures and processes that creates them?

Need Help understanding plant Pollen and Spore terminology?
It helps if you know a little bit about the origins of these words. The easiest to remember is that the "-phyte" part of sporophyte means "plant". So the sporophyte is always diploid and is the life-phase that produces spores (which are haploid). The sporangium is the container that holds and releases the spores (the "-angium" part is taken from a Greek word meaning container or vessel; it becomes "-angia" in the plural)

In some texts you will see the terms "microspore" and "megaspore". These are easier to remember because everyone knows that micro means small and mega means large. They are used for the small reproductive cells (pollen) and the relatively large ones (egg cells) in higher plants.

If I eat it will it give me immunity to the pollen of that plant?

Ive heard if you eat the plant that is giving you the allergy or hayfever that you will not be effected by its pollen anymore ! Is that true?

If I eat it will it give me immunity to the pollen of that plant?
What you are referring to is called homeopathic medicine, and

yes it does work to a certain degree, but it will not heal you fully. You do not actually eat the plant dummy. You get it in an extracted version in a tincture at a health food store. Do you really think you are allergic to pollen? I would think about that one before I answer!
Reply:This is dangerous to do as you could have such a severe allergic reaction you could go into anaphylatic shock and possibly die.
Reply:hell no it'll make you sick and you'll have to get your stomach pumped because many plants are toxic when digested.

if you want to become immune to certain plants don't eat them just keep them around you until it doesn't bother you anymore...

If I put pollen of a daylily on the lip of bearded irsis could it create a new plant?

Is there a way I could do it? Can you buy a dayliliy/iris hybrid?

If I put pollen of a daylily on the lip of bearded irsis could it create a new plant?
Iris is in the family of plants called Irididaceae. Daylilly ( Hermiocallis) is in the family of plants called Lilliaceae. Both are in two seperate families for this reason you can't graft, bud, or mix the tow families, they are not compatible. You can only do this with genus specific plants. The genus for iris is Iris, thier are a multitude of species within this genus ( the second part of the botanical name.) The genus of Daylilly is Hermiocallis, again thier are a multitude of species with in the genus.
Reply:In general, two plants of different species will not be capable of "mating" due to the difference in the number of chromosomes. Daylilies and Irises are not only not the same species, they're not the same genus or family; the closest they are related is that they are the same order (Asparagales); it's unlikely you'd get anything at all.
Reply:I dont think so. not much of a plant person but you can try it!
Reply:I would think it might have been done already if possible, but good luck with your experiments
Reply:Only if the day lily %26amp; iris are fertile
Reply:They will not cross.
Reply:I don't think so because, If I'm not mistaken, in order for cross pollination to occur they have to be members of the same species.
Reply:Good luck man handling pollen. And im pretty sure it has to be pollen of the specific plant

Regarding Sunflowers, what is the difference between pollen and pollen less varieties?

Which is best to grow if planting only a few plants?

Regarding Sunflowers, what is the difference between pollen and pollen less varieties?
Pollen less sunflowers are the ones you would grow for the flowers only.

" Pollen free types are excellent for cut flowers, they are uniform and vigorous in growth even under low temperature and short day conditions. Dense planting will provide quality cut flowers. Pollen free varieties can be sown September to March under glass and April to August outdoors. Min night temp 8°C day max temp 25°C require little or no fertilizer and water sparingly."

If you want the seeds, you'll need to grow the regular pollen-producing kind.
Reply:the only way one could be pollen-less is if it's a genetic freak (which is not necessarily a bad thing) and has what's called a double-flower. That is, instead of the smooth centre portion with ray florets (the petals) all around it, it would probably be one big mass of those petals.

Anyway, the pollen-less variety would not produce any seeds, and might be good is someone's allergies are irritated by pollen.

How can I get relieved to avoid from pollen allergy in the spring season?

In islamabad, PAKISTAN, I get suffered each year in the spring season since 1984, when I got shifted here. Is there any long lasting cure for this bad?

How can I get relieved to avoid from pollen allergy in the spring season?
try using a neti pot during the season to clean out your sinus cavity. it really helped my husband, he has had allergies all his life.
Reply:Try Immunotherapy. One can go for allergy shots for seasonal rhinitis.
Reply:this sounds off the wall but it works for me. Go to your local health food store and buy some bee pollen, it needs to be locally collected to immunize you from the inside out. you take 1/2 tps in the morn and 1/2 at night. Be ware you might get all energetic after words and your ears might tickle on the inside but it's really good for you. I'm really allergic to poison oak and I backpack all the time so while backpacking, or hiking in the spring I pinch off teeny buds and eat one every time I go. In the fall when the oils are lethal I don't but I haven't had a rash since and I've been doing it for 20 years now.

Neighbors have a pollen tree that breeds bees and it hangs on my side of the fence?
Never heard of a pollen tree. I believe most trees have pollen to a certain extent.

It is their tree. The problem is the part that hangs on your property. Since they said they need to talk to their manager it sounds like they are renting. If that's the case then you should contact the property management company and ask them nicely to cut the branches that overhang your property.
Reply:personally... without any direct knowledge of laws... In your shoes, I would trim the tree that was clearly on my side of the fence, as long as it didn't threaten the tree's health..

What can you tell me about bee pollen tablets?
Bee Pollen in itself didn't do much for me. Once I added the

Royal Jelly, Ginseng, Bee propolis with the Bee Pollen is when I noticed the below effects.

Had more sustained energy

Increased endurance

Relieved stress

Enhanced immunity

I don't have allergies but have heard these taken together will also reduce allergy symptoms.

I use 500mg bee pollen

200mg American Ginseng

75mg Propolis

250mg Royal Jelly
Reply:I tried it many years ago, and I was a bit more energized. It took a couple of days before I noticed anything.

But I strongly suspected the placebo effect, and since it was kind of pricey (at least, it was at the stores I found it in), I didn't keep taking it. It wasn't at all like coffee or caffeinated soft drinks, where I could be completely SURE the effects are a result of having taken it.

It didn't *hurt* anything, other than my wallet, but if you're looking for anything more than a mild, overall feeling of energy that MAY OR MAY NOT have actually come from the stuff...I wouldn't recommend it.
Reply:jeez, i'm so tired of all these "tablets"

why don't you just eat honey? goddamn, its got to be a hundred times better for you than some pill.

How do I remove a lily pollen stain?
I have a suggestion for the clothing stains; but a lot probably depends on the frabric also. If you live near what we call here " Dollar Tree." They sell a cleaning solutiong called "Awesome.". It is what it is called. I use it on everything and it is my laundry pretreat for all stains. I bought Oriental Lillies last year for the first time, not realiazing what the pollen can do. I got home took them out of the car... and discovered I had pollen all over my new turqoise top. I used cold water and awesome and worked it in the sink and then put it in the wash with my other things and it all came out! Have no idea if it would work on the carpet though. Do hope you find a solution. OH yes..they have orange awesome too and it is good; but the regular yellow in the clear bottle works best.

Actually, a lot of the "new meds" work the same way, but some people will swear by one. It is really trial and error. Benedryl will put you to sleep, so do not take it in the morning. You can add some nasal spray, such as afrin to open up your nasal passages, but do not use longer than 4 days. It will cause a rebound - increase nasal discharge.

How can i remove the saffron pollen stains from Oriental Lillies that managed to make its way onto my shirt?
Try mechanics waterless hand cleaner, the orange flavored variety. Try rubbing it into the spot, front %26amp; then do the inside of the spot as well and leave overnight rolled into a ball.

Launder the next day as usual but do NOT put it in a dryer until you check to see that the stain is completely gone.

I have also read {but never tried} that WD-40 removes all kinds of stains. I do know about the orange waterless cleaner b/c I have used it many times and it has even removed old stains!
Reply:I know what you mean,Don't they stain? try soaking in Napisan, that may help, might have to do it twice, but I find it very good for a lot of stains, Also I heard a tip spray it with window cleaner(Windex)

How do you eat bee pollen or jelly to boost energy?

I've heard that these are "miracle" products that can boost your energy and even make pregnant women have no morning sickness. How do you take it? And where can I get it?

How do you eat bee pollen or jelly to boost energy?
Bee pollen is great for energy. It is a much better source of protein than whey and has more protien pound for pound than a steak. It has complex carbs to feed your muscles and add energy. Plus it is very high in B vitamins that are needed by your body to make energy. It has also been shown to be a libido enhancer for men. It could be because the pollen is collected from the "male" part of the plants.

Royal jelly has the highest natural source of vitamin B5 and biotin. These B vitamins are responsible for healthy skin. hair and nails. It has collagen to help repair cartillage damage. It has RNA and DNA the "precursers to life". It has been shown to naturally increase hormone levels in both men and women.

You should read the book written by Dr.Cass Ingram called "The Longevity Solutiuon". It has a lot of information in it. As for calling them "miracle" products, I don't know about that, but they are probably the best natural product, because they are so packed full of vitamins and mineral. You would be hard pressed to find another food that has as many nutrients.

If you are considering royal jelly or bee pollen? I would recommend getting it fresh and not freeze dried. My personal observation has been that the freeze dried does not seem to be as affective as the fresh liquid royal jelly and unprocessed bee pollen. The best place to find it is at beeroyalproducts.com.

To take fresh royal jelly, you eat a spoonful (bee royal sends a spoon that is the proper serving size) in the monrning on an empty stomach. It is very bitter so drink a little orange juice and the taste will immediatley go away. DO NOT drink or eat anything hot for 20 minutes after taking it.

Bee pollen can be taken by a teaspoon (start out in smaller doses because some people get an upset stomach because they are not used to the high ammounts of nutrients and need to become acclimated to it). You can sprinkle it on cereal or mix it in your favorite smoothie.

I hope I helped. There is so much more information I could give but then the post would be to long.

Sorry about the spelling but the spell check is not working.
Reply:I totally agree with wizard, my wife took bee pollen and royal jelly throughout all 4 pregnancies and all 4 boys are string and healthy never been sick, we also buy from beeroyalproducts.com great quality and freshness I give them 10 thumbs up
Reply:Hi Tiff, bee pollen has about 45 calories in one Tablespoon. Bee Pollen contains many essential nutrients including 22 amino acids, bioflavonoids, natural antibiotics, hormones, natural sugars, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and EFA’s.

Many people swear to the healing properties of bee pollen. They claim that it'll give you increased energy, boost your body's immune responses by increasing your red and white blood cells, increase longevity by repairing damaged cells, and help to cure all kinds of diseases with it's built in antibacterial qualities.

People also say that it is good for the intestines, moderating and controlling the organisms dwelling there and helping to aid digestion and the assimilation of nutrition

But, there are documented reports of bee pollen and royal jelly triggering asthma, hives, sore throats, facial itches and even anaphylactic shock in people with allergies to specific pollens. And these reactions can occur with as little as one teaspoon of bee pollen.

Royal jelly used as a general health tonic for ages but it is also used for specific aliments too. It has be touted to relieve heart, liver, kidney, digestive and skin disorders, to treat high cholesterol, slow the signs of aging, relieve the pain of arthritis, slow the progress of multiple sclerosis, enhance immunity, improve sexual performance, enhance hair growth and even to heal bone fractures. Many people swear that royal jelly helps improve their stamina, energy and overall sense of well being too. Melbrosia, a mixture of royal jelly and bee pollen and is commonly used by menopausal women to manage their hot flashes and other associated physical symptoms.

As a supplement can be taken in a tablet or capsule form, or it can be ingested in a wide variety of food items such as chocolates, fruit bars and antioxidant drink mixes. Royal jelly can also be found in an amazing array of personal care items like lip balm and skin cream too.

Royal jelly and bee pollen readily available from distributors around the world, Royal Jelly and bee pollen comes in capsule and liquid form. It's available as a chewable tablet and also as a powder and an elixir.

Reply:Bee pollen and royal jelly are in the form of pills or capsules that you swallow, and they are generally sold in health food stores or wherever vitamins or supplements are sold. Since some folks may be allergic to bee pollen, I would caution you to check with your doctor first, especially if you're pregnant or may become pregnant in the near future.
Reply:Tiff,

Bee pollen should not be taken during pregnancy.

Science shows that bee pollen, that wondrous yet mysterious nectar, has natural rejuvenating powers, aids beauty, boosts energy, extends life span, fights allergies (and possibly even cancer) and relieves digestive disorders. Bee pollen bursts with easily-assimilated protein and lecithin, which nourish the brain and nervous system.

Reply:I think you may be thinking about royal jelly, which feeds the queen bee, those are in capsule form usually. Also Propolis, this stuff keeps the hive free of bacteria, boosts your immune system and can be found in spray-form at health food stores. Please be careful, if you are allergic to bees these products, especially pollen can give you an attack! Ginger is the only herb proven to reduce nausea (Gravol even makes it now!!).You can buy candied ginger almost anywhere and it's really tasty, if you are preggers snack on that during the day.

Getting flower pollen stains out of clothes?

Has anyone got any suggestions for getting flower pollen from lillies out of a cotton track top?

Getting flower pollen stains out of clothes?
Carburator cleaner that comes in a spray bottle. Located in the automotive section at Walmart or other popular department stores.
Reply:Lily pollen is almost impossible to remove since it stains. You could try using Vanish.
Reply:Try rubbing soap on the affected area and let it stand for an hour then rinse.
Reply:I would try oxi-clean and hope it works, Lillies are beautiful flowers but can cause such problems if the pods are not removed. You could rub with vanish soap then add oxi-clean to the wash.

Which one will produce a lot of pollen in the air, light or heavy rain?

Out of curiousity to anyone with good knowledge of what mother nature can do, and produce pollen from grass, flowers n' tress during a rain fall.

And for the allergy sufferers out there know what to expect, to take care of their heatlh positively.

Which one will produce a lot of pollen in the air, light or heavy rain?
For allergy sufferers out there the best time to go out is after a good rain. The rain cleanses the air of pollen and other air pollutants. All you need to do is go out after a rain and take a deep breath to know that the air is clean and fresh.
Reply:Neither one. Rain washes airborne pollutants from the air.
Reply:I do believe the heavy the rain the more pollen that gets knocked out of the air. The dry season is when the pollen gets worse and becomes air born more readily...

What is a good way to reduce symptoms of pollen allergies?

Another reason to fear the warm summer day. If you have suggestions other than constantly taking acetominophen pills, that would be prime.

What is a good way to reduce symptoms of pollen allergies?
You need to do a couple things. First- stay away from acetaminophen pills unless you have a headache or a fever. Secondly- get an over-the-counter antihistamine like Claritin, Alavert, or Benadryl. These will stop the symptoms for the most part. Lastly- be sure to end your day after being out in the world by showering AND washing your hair. This will get rid of pollen that has deposited itself on your body. When you start doing this, be sure you are getting into bed on clean sheets (wouldn't make much sense to put a clean body on dirty sheets with pollen on them!!!). If this doesn't work, check with your doc!!!
Reply:You need to increase the strength of yout mast cells, this can be done with bioflavonoids. It is a safe, natural way to stop all allergies.
Reply:Benedryl is an excellent over the counter drug for allergies. Also known as dyphenhydromine hydrochloride.
Reply:Acetaminophen is a fever and inflammation reducer and not very effective at treating allergies. Some over the counter remedies are very effective: my favorite is diphenhydramine (benadryl) but it causes major drowsiness; or Sudafed or Claritin. Sudafed and Claritin do not cause drowsiness so they are great for someone with occasional problems. For long term relief - see an allergist and start shots when the pollen season is over.
Reply:Find a bee keeper in your area, buy comb honey made there, if eaten regularly during allergy season it helps reduce symptoms. It has to be from your area.
Reply:Well acetominophine is not gonna help you with allergies.

You need to be using a anti-histamine. This counters the histamine reaction that pollen causes.

Another treatment , on a long term basis, is using topical cortisteroids. These are used over a longer period of time and applied in the form of a nasal spray. Then anti-histamines can be used when the cortesteroids are overwhelmed.

Also for temporary relief when it really gets bad use a combined anti-histamine and a decongestent.

Hope this helps

How do i get lily pollen out of my platinum blonde hair?

I managed to brush against some lily's and have gotten the pollen on my hair!

I have tried to wash it several times, and have removed some of the orange stain, but i cant get the rest to budge - please please help me !!!!!

How do i get lily pollen out of my platinum blonde hair?
I have been told to try washing with white vinegar and/or hydrogen peroxide. I have also heard that sunlight will remove it.

You might try to put some fresh lemon juice on the stained areas and sit outside in the sun. ( It works to get natural highlights)
Reply:Everything I've heard and read about lily pollen says not to wet the stain, but brush or hoover it off, or lift off the grains with sellotape. I'm sorry I can't be more help!
Reply:ooops
Reply:wash, wash, and rewash...use the entire bottle of shampoo if you have to. Or, use shampoo that is specifically for build up. I had this once with nail polish and it took several reapeated washings but it finally came out. Use HOT water too which is horrible on hair, but it will help to get the pollen out quicker. Good Luck!
Reply:shave. you should go natural.

How is the pollen of plants with less noticeable flowers usually dispersed?

wind...

Wind can be a very good agent to disperse the pollen. Noticeable flower attract insect, birds or certain animal for pollination. wind pollinated flower will have small and light pollen to be transported. Moreover, they are produced in a bug number to increase the changes of pollination.

I would like to self pollinate some plants the spring, how does one keep the stray pollen away?

Do I have to cover with muslin or simular material to stop insects or pollen from another plant

I would like to self pollinate some plants the spring, how does one keep the stray pollen away?
That is exactly what you must do. Check a nursury supplier for materials to do this.
Reply:Put a plastic bag over a group of buds(before they bloom.)That applies to the pollinator and the plant to be pollinated. This way you are sure to have at least one of each ripe at the same time.Pollinate on a windless day if at all possible using a heat sterilised fine brush.Once finished fix new plastic bags on pollinated blooms untill they are obviously drying up.Collect the seed and away to go.
Reply:I think that using a paper or cloth bag is probably a better idea than plastic - plastic will trap moisture and heat and may cause rot in the blossoms. Paper or cloth will breathe and shouldn't cause problems.
Reply:After you pollinate it, tie a baggie over the flower.
Reply:Yes. You need to isolate your plants from the environment.
Reply:Put a plastic bag over the flower you want to fertilize.

How do you get lilly pollen out of a white cats fur?

Am aware that lillies are poisoness to cats. I have tried giving cat a bath with shampoo and using baby wipe!!! Fur is still tarnished with yellow!

How do you get lilly pollen out of a white cats fur?
brush cat first then bathe i would also consider using an elizabethan collar until all the pollen is gone if you are unable to get it all out then i would consider going to a groomer who may be able to assist you by the way , most dog groomers also do cats too
Reply:A boil wash gets that colour out off underpants
Reply:keep the cat brushed and groomed well
Reply:theres only one way...uve got to shave ur PuSSy (cat)
Reply:lilly pollen is a very strong pigment. If you have thoroughly washed the cat, then the fur is just stained and her tongue will not do any better therefore she will not get poisoned. Best thing to do is just leave it - the hairs will eventually fall out and be replaced.

Rename the cat in the meantime, for example lemondrop lol!
Reply:Theres no safe way you can move a lily-pollen stain from ANYTHING!!!!! Just snip out the affected fur---nothing else you can do. It will soon grow back.
Reply:give her a good shave
Reply:The stain may fade in time, and your cat will definately loose it when it sheds those hairs.
Reply:shave it

In angiosperms, after pollenation occurs and a pollen tube forms, is the pollen still present on the stigma?

Does the pollen grain stay on the tip of the pistil, or does it move down into the pistil's interior with the pollen tube?

In angiosperms, after pollenation occurs and a pollen tube forms, is the pollen still present on the stigma?
The pollen tube grows from the grain deposited on the stigma of the female pistil carrying the tube nucleus and 2 sperm nuclei for double fertiliztion of the ovule. The grain opens up and is only the carrying vessel for the gametes. It stays outside on the stigma.
Reply:There are three parts to a flowers pistil. The stigma, the style, and the ovary. First the pollen sticks to the stigma which is the very tip, that's where you are seeing the pollen stick to it. Then it goes down the style into the ovary. Not all the pollen goes down into the style.

When will the tree pollen count go down?

My allergies are awful right now- this year has been particularly bad. I live in Mississippi and pollen count is "very high". When will it ever start going down?

By the way, anybody ever tried Singulair or other prescription meds? The over-the-counter stuff is just not cutting it!!!

THANKS!

When will the tree pollen count go down?
The prescription meds are worth a try. When the Dogwoods bloom, your allergies should start to improve.
Reply:you should look into allergy shots. in the long run they are cheaper and more affective.

if you go to weather.com, it lets you know the pollen count. but if i were to guess, i would say when around fall....i know, thats a long ways away

How do I remove ground in Lilly pollen from jeans, cotton shirts, gyms bags etc?

I was in a wedding and the stupid florist deliveried the flowers with the stamens sill intact. Before I changed I snipped and shook all of the bundles clean. I carefully rolled my jeans and shirt up in my bag, but the pollen is everywhere. (Black velvet jewelry box too) It was a couple of days before I got the bag back from the Maid of Honors house and the items went into the wash. They were washed with Oxy clean, but my helping husband threw them in the dryer without checking. It's bad, I think the shirt is kissed, but I really want to save the jeans. I heard rust remover would help, has anyonewlaw heard that? Thx

How do I remove ground in Lilly pollen from jeans, cotton shirts, gyms bags etc?
better seek help from a washer shop..

Do trees give off a lot of pollen as soon as the weather first warms up?

I swear , I was sneezing like crazy this evening. And the temperature had risen to very spring like readings. So, I was wondering if the trees just give off pollen at the very first hint of Spring weather or not?

and is this all just automatic, just like ground temperatures influence when blooms begin?

Thanks for your answers!

Do trees give off a lot of pollen as soon as the weather first warms up?
You are right to assume that trees flower when the weather gets warmer. Usually they develop buds which stay closed until there is a couple of warmer days and then they open. Different types of trees open at different times although almost all of them open during the spring period. Male trees of course have huge amounts of pollen so it is very likely that if you are downwind of some flowering trees you will be affected.
