Self-incompatibility - a mechanism in some angiosperms to reduce self-fertilization and increase outbreeding.

Some flowers reject pollen produced by the same plant. Why do plants do this?
Pretty much the same reason you don't marry your sister. It prevents inbreeding, allows more diversity of genetic material.
