It is used to reconstruct the vegetation in the past. Paleoecological reconstruction also uses information provided in the extraction, recording and analysis of the fossil record. This provides us with a time framework and an idea of the flora and fauna during a certain epoch. The problem of fossils for dating and reconstructing past environments is that it is not useful for the last ten to hundred thousand years
