I replaced it about a month ago but it seems to be as bad as ever again so i thinking about leaving it out all together. Is this possible ? ,they quite pricey at £20 to last no more than a month. Thanks for any Help
Hi everyone can anyone tell me what would happen if i did not replace the aircon pollen filter on my car.?
Yes you can leave it out and then inhale all the airborne polutants that it filters out
If you leave the old one in then you do run the risk of the heater blower motor getting hot due to the restricted air flow to the point where it has been known to burn out the motor on some models
Now a filter is usually cheaper than a motor. The required change is normally annually so I think you must live in a very polluted area if it is getting dirty that quick
Check that you do not have a slight exhaust blow at the front end of your car and the exhaust fumes are not being sucked in part through the filter.
Reply:If you suffer from any kind of hay-fever then you would soon realise what would happen. You would end up having a bad bout of hay-fever. this filter stops pollen so is part of your cars air-conditioning.
Reply:Probably something bad
Reply:The in-cabin air filter should last at least 15K miles. I live in Houston (crazy pine pollen in the spring), and mine usually lasts atleast that long.
Little tip though: NEVER get this replaced at a service shop or dealership. A typical filter costs next to nothing ($15-20), whereas a dealership will charge $100-150 to replace it. Replacing it yourself shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes at the most.
Reply:This is what would happen-

Reply:uuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh WHAT!!!!!
Reply:U will save some money lol.
Reply:i work at kwik fit and to be honest we do it and its a bit of a con.
Reply:eventually the restricted air flow would overheat the system and it could burn out!
Reply:Just clean it , bang it about a bit and blow it out with air pressure you make it last for years
Reply:I have my car serviced by the local agent - they have pushed to replace my pollen filter AND recharge my aircon for 3 years now. As I was on an economy drive I said no.
I did finally have the filter replaced last month - but the one that was on there was actually 5 years old - and I haven't moticed much of a difference!
I am amazed that there is something wrong with yours after 1 month and think it more likely you didn't fit it properly OR that there is something wrong with it.
ANYWAY - if you took the pollen filter OFF completely it would do no more than not filter pollen - which is what it is not doing at the moment!
Reply:it is possable to leave it out if it has just been changed then the whole system needs looked at i would just leave it out jock
Reply:you would die a long lingering lung sapping death that's what!
Reply:i would say you probably have a problem elsewhere in your ventilation system.
Reply:the air conditioning filter is a great invention, but mdernick is correct, they should last about 15k miles or about a year or so. they are pricey at repair shops, but the filters themselves atre relatively inexpensive. most auto parts stores have them and can show you how to install them.
