Should i still run track with severe allergies to pollen in georgia?
As a runner myself, as well as an allergy-sufferer, I know that this is a hard decision. But personally, I wouldn't give up running for anything. And unless you have EXTREMELY bad allergies, I'm willing to bet that there are ways for you to manage your symptoms. Try seeing an allergist -- they will be able to prescribe you with a good medicine to manage daily symptoms. (I use Zyrtec and it works like a charm.) As for the breathing trouble, that's definitely a big concern. I also get asthma from my allergies - definitely not fun. But again, I'm thinking that with some prescription drugs and a good inhaler, you can probably still work this out.

Another option you could discuss with a doctor would be for you to start getting immunotherapy injections -- weekly shots to desensitize you to pollen. I started getting the shots last year, and I'm already noticing results. The shots don't really hurt at all and it's not as bad as it seems.

Of course, no advice you get on Yahoo will be as valuable as that of a doctor. They're the one who should ultimately help you decide what's best.

I hope you figure out a way to keep running!
Reply:Well obviously not, you don't want to end up collapsing and getting hurt do you? You should probably take some allergy medicine that doesn't contain antihistamine, or at least only has a small amount. I don't know about you but allergy medicine tends to knock me out.
Reply:Only stay in races if you have proper medications that you know will work against your high allergies. If no medications u can take that will help then don't take any chance what so ever.
Reply:Take a teaspoon of LOCAL honey each day and, within a month or so, you will be allergy-free. Local honey works with the body to develop immunities to any air born irritant around you including pollen, smog, mold, mildew, dust and pet dander. You will also notice that you don't come down with every little germ that floats your way.
