Claritin is probably the best OTC med out there because it has fewer side effects than many of the others. You do have to take it regularly; it's not an instant fix. And you should start taking it right when allergy season is about to start because it takes a few days to weeks to get the effective level in your body.
What's the best over the counter medicine for allergy relief from pollen?
No such thing as a best medicine! Not even a good one!
You can chose from a bunch of crap. Good luck to you!
Reply:Claritin is good for a long term effects. However, if you are looking for a short term relief I found Tylenol for Allergies is great. It works for me. For short and quick relief.
Reply:Clariten, definitely

Now my allergy is totally gone .Research from medical universities all over the world show the Xanthones in the mangosteen contains elements that literally help to correct and kill many diseases that occur today. Reply:Benadryl, but it will make you drowsy.
Claritin ( loratidine) if you need to be alert
Reply:I take Zyrtec! ...started taking it 6 weeks ago. I really like it :)
Claritin just didn't do the trick for me!
Reply:Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is the most effective antihistamine. If you come into an emergency room with a life-threatening allergic response, you will get intravenous benadryl in addition to steroids and epinephrine.
So for pollen allergies, Benadryl works best. However, it also makes you very tired. Many over-the-counter sleep aids, like Tylenol PM, use diphenhydramine/Benadryl to put you to sleep.
Claritin doesn't make you tired, so if you need to be awake, that may be a better choice. For me, though, Claritin doesn't work at all.
Good luck.
